Mid- September; the start of the spring season. The House that Jack Built stands ready on Wednesday, awaiting the arrival of the first guests. In the arboretum blossoms in variety are in their prime – crabapples and ornamental pears dominate, the dogwoods are swelling and the maples and oaks are showing colour. Azaleas abound. But the grass is still straw and many trees are leafless. This is why I say spring is a little schitzo around here, even if it is our most popular tourist season… Take it from one who loves the area deeply: you aint seen nothing yet!
